  • Circular by Nature, Perfected by Science: The Sustainability of Accoya

True sustainability is more than just using renewable materials; it's about creating a complete, responsible lifecycle. Accoya embodies this principle, designed to be circular by nature and perfected by science. Our journey begins with rapidly growing, FSC®-certified forests, ensuring our raw material is sourced with the highest respect for the environment. We then enhance the wood through our non-toxic acetylation process, resulting in extreme durability that is guaranteed for 50 years. This incredible longevity means fewer replacements and far less waste over a building's lifetime. Most importantly, our commitment culminates in the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Gold® certification. This is your assurance that Accoya is non-toxic and can be safely returned to the biological cycle at the end of its long life. It is a choice that benefits your project today and the planet tomorrow.

  • A 50-Year Promise: The Unwavering Confidence of the Accoya Guarantee

In the world of building materials, a promise should be built to last. Accoya replaces uncertainty with a clear, powerful, and unwavering commitment: our official guarantee. We stand behind our wood with a 50-year warranty against rot and decay for above-ground use, and 25 years for in-ground or freshwater applications. This isn't a hopeful marketing claim; it's a promise backed by decades of scientific research and the proven performance of our acetylation process. It is your assurance that the deck you relax on, the cladding that protects your home, and the windows you look through are built to endure. This guarantee provides more than just protection for your investment; it provides genuine peace of mind. It represents our absolute confidence in our product, allowing you to design and build with the utmost certainty. Choose a future free from worry—build with the confidence of the Accoya guarantee.

Accoya timber, which stands out with its natural and low-maintenance structure, was the preferred material for the exterior cladding. Threesixty Architecture, which undertook the architectural design of the project, preferred the Accoya cladding provided by Russwood and the profile dimensions used were determined as 47mm × 25mm and 73mm × 50mm (on the edge). Before the application, the cladding was specially coated with Teknos FI-024 by Russwood in the factory. This process increased the resistance of the wood to natural weather conditions, while giving the structure a warm texture and aesthetic integrity. Russwood supplied A1 quality Accoya timber in accordance with the project requirements and offered it in a modular system in panels measuring 150mm x 50mm in order to speed up the assembly process. Robertson Construction, the project’s main contractor, successfully completed the installation of the Accoya exterior cladding. Malibu, America Zero Carbon Certified Housing in Malibu This private residence’s exterior cladding, ceilings and interior paneling are made of FSC-certified Accoya wood. As seen in the image, the ceiling of the room is covered with 25-meter Accoya wood panels, and there are skylights at the top providing natural light. In addition, Accoya woods treated with Delta Black coating by Delta Millworks were used as decorative cladding around the fireplace. On Pointe Design, who undertook the interior architecture of the project, explains the reason for choosing Accoya around the fireplace as follows: “By using a zero-emission fireplace, we were able to use combustible shou sugi ban treated wood directly flush with the fire chamber.” Shou sugi ban is a traditional Japanese technique that allows the surface of the wood to be burned in a controlled manner, making it resistant to water and weather conditions. On Pointe Design stated that they preferred FSC-certified Accoya wood as a sustainable alternative to traditionally used cedar wood for this special surface treatment technique. The Accoya wooden exterior cladding used in this project was supplied and applied in accordance with international sustainability standards. Designed with the goal of zero carbon emissions, this luxury residence stands out as a pioneering structure in terms of environmental sustainability. Terschelling, Holland Unique View to the Dutch Sand Dunes This private residence on the Dutch coastline is located in a position with a magnificent view of the world-famous sand dunes, offering its residents the opportunity to experience this unique natural beauty every day. Starting with a concrete base layer, the structure is constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT) and steel construction, and finally completed with a steeply sloped, asymmetrical roof covered with Accoya wood. The natural Accoya wood will mature to a platinum grey color over time and become part of the natural landscape, integrating with the dunes. In addition, thanks to the skylight placed on the roof, it offers the opportunity to look out over the island and other surrounding houses from a high perspective while on the mezzanine floor under the roof dome. This sustainable and nature-compatible design makes a difference with its natural materials, modern architectural solutions and details that integrate with the environment, bringing a new breath to the architecture in the region.
