Moses Bridge

Located in Fort de Roovere, Netherlands, this historic fortress required a new access bridge that would respect its heritage. A traditional bridge would have disrupted the visual harmony of the site. To overcome this challenge, RO&AD architects designed a nearly invisible sunken bridge—The Moses Bridge. It cuts through the water, descending from the fortress to the moat floor, aligning seamlessly with the water level and landscape.
This unique structure allows visitors to approach the fortress unnoticed, ensuring perfect architectural harmony and natural integration. Accoya wood was used for the bridge’s deck and stairs, offering long-lasting performance and water resistance. Accoya’s high durability, water resistance, and minimal maintenance needs made it an ideal material for this project, contributing to both aesthetics and environmental sustainability.
